Route Challenges & Tips

1. North Road / SH1 Roundabout (Steps 4-6)

Challenge: You'll take the 2nd exit at the roundabout onto State Highway 1, transitioning from town streets to the main highway.

Tip: Stay in the left lane on the roundabout, and signal once you pass the first exit. On SH1 be prepared for higher speeds - accelerate smoothly to match the flow of traffic.

2. Okahu Road Rural Section (Step 15)

Challenge: This nearly 5km rural stretch along Okahu Road heads out of town, with open-road speed limits and typical rural hazards.

Tip: Maintain appropriate speed for the road conditions – rural roads can have hidden entrances and loose gravel near edges. Use your mirrors regularly to keep aware of any traffic following you.

3. Residential Street Sequence (Steps 17-24)

Challenge: The return journey navigates through several residential streets in quick succession – Pukepoto Road, Lake Road, Williams Street, Bonnetts Road, Jamieson Road, and Grigg Street.

Tip: Listen carefully to each instruction as they test your ability to follow directions and navigate narrow suburban streets. Watch for pedestrians, especially children, and take your time at intersections.
